Baseball Recap: Hazen Takes a Loss

Hazen fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Bothell on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 4-3. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sam Nicholson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hazen is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Alvin Chang and Adriel Vazquez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Chang scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Vazquez scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Vazquez also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Alex Chadrow was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Hazen's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Bothell, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Hazen wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 3-1 victory against Liberty on the 4th. As for Bothell, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-3 loss against Juanita on the 4th.
