The Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers will square off against the Hickory Grove Christian Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Legion Collegiate Academy has six straight wins, Hickory Grove Christian has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Legion Collegiate Academy had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Cherryville on Tuesday. The Lancers put the hurt on the Ironmen with a sharp 9-1 victory. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Legion Collegiate Academy got a great performance from Charlie Bailey as he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, Bailey posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Griffin McKain was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Kayden Blackwelder also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Legion Collegiate Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Hickory Grove Christian fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Concord Academy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-3.
Brady Johnson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nathan Dowdy was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ben Green, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Legion Collegiate Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Hickory Grove Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 9-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Legion Collegiate Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hickory Grove Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
