Softball Game Preview: Cherokee County Warriors vs. Alexandria Valley Cubs

The Cherokee County Warriors will take on the Alexandria Valley Cubs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cherokee County comes in on six and Alexandria on four.

Last Tuesday, Cherokee County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over White Plains.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alexandria). They were the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over Pisgah on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Reece Carr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Carr was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. That hit was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Pressley Slaton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Brenlee Sparks, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Alexandria always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Alexandria pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cherokee County, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
