Volleyball Recap: Savanna Rebels vs. Western Pioneers
Savanna suffered their biggest defeat since April 17, 2024 on Friday. They lost 3-0 to the Western Pioneers. The Rebels have struggled against the Pioneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Savanna was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Western work for it, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-21, 25-14.
Despite the loss, Savanna saw an underclassman step up: freshman Arden Pheng had 22 digs and two assists.
Byron Miranda produced another solid effort getting 24 digs and five assists for Western. That's the most assists Miranda has posted since back in March.
Savanna's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Western, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-1.
Savanna and Western should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Rebels (ranked 369th) will meet Estancia (ranked 1031st) at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Western will take on Loara at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (218 vs. 566).
