Russell County and South Warren are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Lakers will venture away from home to square off against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Russell County 4, South Warren 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Russell County and Wayne County had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Lakers were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Cardinals on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Lakers, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, South Warren faced Barren County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Spartans walked away with a 3-0 victory over the Trojans. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won four contests in a row.

Jacob Lobb looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Jaxen Decker was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

South Warren hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

South Warren's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Russell County, their record now sits at 22-11.

Russell County came out on top in a nail-biter against South Warren in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Lakers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
