Softball Recap: Merrillville Pirates vs. Lake Central Indians

Merrillville had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-21 to make it seven. They came up short against the Lake Central Indians, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in April.

Merrillville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elani Alvarez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Alvarez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Alaysia Haney also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

At the plate, Lexi Iwema was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 13 contests. Another player making a difference was Kate Renschen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Merrillville will head out to square off against Lake Station Edison at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Central, they will host Marist at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
