Preview: Doddridge County Bulldogs vs. Clay-Battelle Cee Bees
Doddridge County and Clay-Battelle are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Doddridge County Bulldogs just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Clay-Battelle Cee Bees at 7:30 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Doddridge County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday.
Doddridge County unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to Cameron. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Doddridge County came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Cameron is ranked 497th).
Despite their defeat, Doddridge County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Brandon Hileman, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Hileman hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Jerod Trent, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, even though Magnolia scored an imposing 60 points on Tuesday, Clay-Battelle still came out on top. Clay-Battelle took down Magnolia 76-60.
Doddridge County's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Clay-Battelle, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Doddridge County came up short against Clay-Battelle when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 71-61. Can Doddridge County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
