Baseball Game Preview: Bonneville Lakers vs. Viewmont Vikings

For the second straight game, Bonneville will face off against Viewmont. The Lakers will head out to face off against the Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bonneville is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

Viewmont hit Bonneville with a seven-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lakers took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings.

For Viewmont's part, Beckham Smith and Elias Culley made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Smith tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Culley didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Smith got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Culley went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two doubles gave Smith a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kade Marriott was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Viewmont: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 7-8 otherwise. Boston Williams also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Viewmont has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bonneville, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bonneville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Viewmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
