Basketball Recap: Lawson Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jacob Williams and Chandler Galloway

If Lawson was riding high fresh off their 71-37 takedown of Glencliff last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lawson Lightning took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet Royals on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Royals this season, with their most recent loss being a 71-60 defeat last Tuesday.

Chandler Galloway and Jacob Williams certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Galloway dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten boards, while Williams went 8-for-10 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds. Galloway has become a key player for Lawson: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 10-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin King, who posted seven points and six boards.

Lawson has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points over those games. Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Lawson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet, they will take on Hume-Fogg at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Hume-Fogg sitting on 13 straight victories and Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet on five.
