Basketball Recap: Soren Singer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Englewood over Standley Lake

On Saturday, the Englewood Pirates were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to the Standley Lake Gators. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Gators are ranked 47th).

Englewood lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Soren Singer, who went 8-for-16 on his way to 18 points in addition to five boards and four steals. That's the most points he has posted since back in February of 2024. Jonah Singer was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Standley Lake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asher Serlen, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 16 points along with five boards and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Titus Schrecengost, who went 5-for-10 en route to 13 points and five assists.

Englewood's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-13. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points over those games. As for Standley Lake, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-5.

As of now, neither Englewood nor Standley Lake have any future games scheduled.
