Recap: Riverdale Rebels vs. West Jefferson Buccaneers
Even though the Riverdale Rebels have not done well against the West Jefferson Buccaneers recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Riverdale walked away with a 53-42 victory over West Jefferson. Given Riverdale's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while West Jefferson is ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverdale's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mazie Parmley led the charge by scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Parmley hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Jaeshaunie Martin was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Several Buccaneers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kellie Cyprian, who scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cyprian has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Coye McClairen, who scored 13 points.
Riverdale pushed their record up to 16-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 25.67 points. As for West Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverdale will take on West St. John at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. West Jefferson won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Chalmette at 5:00 p.m. on January 18th. Chalmette will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
