Volleyball Recap: Pelham Falls Despite Big Games from Aubrie Smith and Kayla Girardin

Pelham was the 2-0 winner over Lawrence County when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Panthers fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 2-1 on Saturday.

Pelham's loss came despite strong showings from Kayla Girardin and Aubrie Smith. Girardin had eight digs and two assists, while Smith had 12 kills and eight digs. Smith has been hot recently, having posted five or more kills the last four times she's played.

Leading Lawrence County to victory were Reagan Smith and Ellie Gilliland. Reagan had 11 digs and two aces, while Gilliland had four digs and one assist. That's the most aces Smith has posted over her last 17 matchups.

Pelham has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-27 record this season. As for Lawrence County, they moved to 24-28 with that victory, which also ended their four-match losing streak.

Coming up, Pelham will take on Chelsea at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lawrence County, they have already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Baldwin County on the 11th.
