Volleyball Game Preview: Oak Ridge War Eagles vs. The Woodlands Highlanders

Oak Ridge is 1-9 against The Woodlands since November of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The War Eagles will square off against the Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Oak Ridge had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Caney Creek on Tuesday. The War Eagles were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Panthers. The War Eagles haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Oak Ridge was: they took every set by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-9, 25-14, 25-6.

The Woodlands won the last time they faced Conroe and Ava Gibbs did her part to make sure it happened again. The Highlanders blew past the Tigers 3-0 on Tuesday with plenty of help from Gibbs, who had 15 digs and three aces. She has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 36 times she's played.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: The Woodlands took every set by at least 11 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.

The Woodlands' win bumped their record up to 21-18. As for Oak Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 26-9.

Oak Ridge was able to grind out a solid win over The Woodlands when the teams last played back in September, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the War Eagles since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
