Softball Recap: Cleveland Wins Going Away Against Ida B. Wells

After only two runs in their last matchup, Cleveland made sure to put some runs up on the board against Ida B. Wells on Friday. The Warriors blew past the Guardians 11-1. With that victory, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Jillian Lee made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Simone Chance, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Cass, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cleveland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Cleveland is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Ida B. Wells, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season.

Cleveland will square off against Roosevelt at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ida B. Wells does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
