Basketball Recap: St. Paul Comes Up Short

St. Paul was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a 44-30 bruising from the Centura Centurions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-32 last Tuesday.

Despite the defeat, St. Paul saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aubree Fitzgerald went 6 for 12 en route to 14 points and three blocks. Fitzgerald has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Zaya Lewis, who posted three points and eight boards.

Centura was led to victory by Taya Taukiuvea and Kennedy Davis. Taukiuvea dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Davis dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Davis is becoming a predictor of Centura's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 5-1 (and 5-8 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Fanta, who put up three points and eight boards.

St. Paul's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Centura, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season.

St. Paul has already played their next contest, a 52-36 victory against Gibbon on the 7th. As for Centura, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 34-24 defeat against Central City on the 7th.
