Softball Game Preview: Dyer County Choctaws vs. Benet Academy Redwings

The Dyer County Choctaws will head out on the road to square off against the Benet Academy Redwings at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Dyer County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.

Dyer County will bounce into Saturday's match after beating Lexington, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Dyer County blew past Lexington 11-1 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Choctaws, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kierstyn Ray was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Evie Rogers, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Dyer County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .395 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Benet Academy came up short against Bradley-Bourbonnais on Wednesday and fell 5-1. The Redwings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sophia Rosner was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Rosner was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Rosner wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alaina Rosner, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Dyer County pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Benet Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
