Baseball Game Preview: Matanzas Pirates vs. Father Lopez Green Wave

Matanzas is 2-8 against Father Lopez since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Matanzas Pirates will head out to square off against the Father Lopez Green Wave at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Matanzas is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They fell 8-3 to Pine Ridge.

Paul Trettner was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. That run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Wiley Connor, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Father Lopez scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Lake Highland Prep by a score of 8-7. The Green Wave just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Father Lopez's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Matanzas, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Matanzas might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Father Lopez when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Matanzas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
