The Mercyhurst Prep Lakers will face off against the Seneca Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mercyhurst Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
Mercyhurst Prep came up short against Mercer on Wednesday, falling 9-3. The matchup marked the Lakers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Mercyhurst Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Beebe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Beebe has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another was Allison Kosinski, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Seneca waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 15-7 margin over the Bears. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 25, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Sophia Primavere made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Primavere was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haylee Farrell, who fired off three home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Matson, who went 4-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
Seneca kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Seneca's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Mercyhurst Prep, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mercyhurst Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Seneca struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mercyhurst Prep skirted past Seneca 5-4 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Lakers repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
