The Gray's Creek Bears will challenge the South View Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Gray's Creek 2, South View 0.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Gray's Creek's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Lumberton with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Hailey McFarley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gray's Creek got a massive performance out of August Kebort, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Amber Miller, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Gray's Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, South View put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Purnell Swett. Give the Tigers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.
PAIGE FORD was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. MADDY CLARK was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
South View pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gray's Creek, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gray's Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .436. However, it's not like South View struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gray's Creek couldn't quite get it done against South View in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can Gray's Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
