Legacy never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Monarch on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Coyotes. Considering the Lightning have won eight matchups by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Kady Cosyns looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
At the plate, Legacy got a massive performance out of Prisca Smolens, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcella Moritz, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Legacy lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Legacy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Monarch, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
Legacy will face off against Horizon at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lightning will need to watch out since the Hawks have now posted at least ten runs in their last six matchups. As for Monarch, they will challenge Holy Family on Tuesday. The Coyotes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
