Baseball Game Preview: Tohopekaliga Tigers vs. Liberty Chargers

The Tohopekaliga Tigers will square off against the Liberty Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tohopekaliga has three straight victories, Liberty has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Tohopekaliga's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Innovation, sneaking past 2-0.

The result came thanks to Anthony Capuana's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Tohopekaliga is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Tohopekaliga saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Oquendo, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Tohopekaliga hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Liberty came up short against Haines City on Monday and fell 8-4.

Tohopekaliga pushed their record up to 9-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Everything went Tohopekaliga's way against Liberty in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Tohopekaliga made off with a 16-0 win. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
