Softball Recap: Quincy Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Geneseo, Quincy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Cyclones: they've now won three in a row.

Izzy Weppler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Maggie Neally was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivy Winter, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Quincy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Quincy's win bumped their record up to 12-19. As for Sacred Heart-Griffin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.

Quincy and Sacred Heart-Griffin could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Blue Devils (ranked 326th) will meet Glenwood (ranked eighth) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Sacred Heart-Griffin will take on Carrollton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (132 vs. 24).
