Football Recap: Taylorville Skates Past Mattoon with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Taylorville). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 50-6 win over the Mattoon Greenwave. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Isaac Repscher produced another solid performance throwing for 207 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes, while also rushing for 44 yards and one score. Another player making a difference was Malique Pearse, who picked up 64 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Taylorville didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Mattoon to a completion percentage of just 45.5%. That defensive display was nothing new: the Tornadoes have limited their opponent to a lower and lower completion percentage in three consecutive contests.

The win got Taylorville back to even at 3-3. As for Mattoon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taylorville will host Charleston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tornadoes will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mattoon, they will welcome Mahomet-Seymour at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
