Softball Recap: Coronado Triumphs

Coronado won the last time they faced San Diego and things went their way on Friday too. The Islanders came out on top against the Cavers by a score of 9-5. With that win, the Islanders brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Ali Pecus was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over 4.1 innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Cali Smith was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Sammy Aldworth, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coronado's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for San Diego, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coronado will head out to take on Morse at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for San Diego, they will venture away from home to square off against Hilltop at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cavers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
