Softball Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short

Mitchell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 16-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yankton Bucks/Gazelles. The Kernels were not able to make up for their loss to the Bucks/Gazelles from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Mallory Miedema was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Hegg, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Yankton, they moved to 2-5 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Mitchell will challenge Harrisburg at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Kernels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 12 runs per game this season. As for Yankton, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Dakota Valley at 12:30 p.m.
