Fairfield is a perfect 8-0 against Paint Valley since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Lions will head out to take on the Bearcats at 11:00 a.m. Fairfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
While Fairfield's victory against Fayetteville-Perry wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Rockets 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted against the Rockets since April 2, 2019.
Rilee Quickle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Quickle was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Quickle wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jobey Hattan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
Fairfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Paint Valley's offense. They fell 5-0 to Clay on Friday. The Bearcats' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.
Fairfield's record now sits at 9-2. As for Paint Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fairfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Paint Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Fairfield's way against Paint Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Fairfield made off with a 31-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
