Basketball Recap: Edgewood Academy Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Edgewood Academy took on Evangel Christian Academy on Friday. The Edgewood Academy Wildcats fell 58-49 to the Evangel Christian Academy Lions. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-42 back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Edgewood Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lexie Smith posted 29 points and four steals. The matchup was Smith's 16th in a row with at least ten points.

Evangel Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Symone McNeil, who scored 13 points and six rebounds. That's the most boards McNeil has posted since back in November of 2024. Audrey Kate Davis was another key player, putting up 18 points and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Edgewood Academy and nudges their season record down to 13-8. As for Evangel Christian Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

Edgewood Academy has already played their next game (against Banks Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Evangel Christian Academy will head out on the road to face off against Fort Dale Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
