Baseball Recap: West Marion's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

West Marion and Seminary squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but West Marion had to settle for second. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 7-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Trojans have suffered since February 22nd.

West Marion got a good showing from Sam Smith, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Smith is becoming a predictor of the Trojans' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 10-4 (and 6-13 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, West Marion saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andre Sumrall, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

West Marion moved to 16-17 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak. As for Seminary, they pushed their record up to 30-8-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

While West Marion had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
