Baseball Game Preview: Greenwood Christian Hawks vs. Abbeville Panthers

Greenwood Christian is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since April 23, 2024 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Crescent, sneaking past 6-4.

Leland Reed made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Greenwood Christian is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-5 otherwise. Reed was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Jacob Lee was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Jeb Booth was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Abbeville faced Ware Shoals in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Abbeville fell just short of Ware Shoals by a score of 10-8. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this matchup were averaging 3.44 runs allowed.

Adam Beiler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayne Botts, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Even though they lost, Abbeville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ware Shoals only managed seven hits.

Having lost for the first time this season, Abbeville fell to 8-1. As for Greenwood Christian, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
