Softball Recap: Deering Comes Up Short

Deering had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it four. They lost 16-1 to the South Portland Red Riots. The game marked the Rams' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Deering saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ruby Chase, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for South Portland, their record now sits at 7-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.

On South Portland's side, Maegan Berry made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Berry has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jillian Edgar was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBI and one double. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Rachel DiMauro was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Deering will take on Scarborough at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Portland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
