The Mater Lakes Academy Bears will square off against the Somerset Academy Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Mater Lakes Academy is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since April 12, 2024 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Coral Gables 3-1.

Christopher Arredondo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run allowed (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Mater Lakes Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JAMES GIL, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Somerset Academy sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Archbishop McCarthy on Thursday. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Somerset Academy also got a great performance from Kareem Amer as he struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance gave Amer a new career-high in strikeouts.
At the plate, Somerset Academy let Meyer Cabrera and Jon Mora run wild. Cabrera went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Mora scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Mora posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Eric Vazquez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Somerset Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Mater Lakes Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-1-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. Somerset Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Mater Lakes Academy couldn't quite finish off Somerset Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 and fell 3-1. Can Mater Lakes Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
