Football Recap: Marlboro Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Marlboro won the last time they faced Toms River South and things went their way on Friday too. The Mustangs enjoyed a cozy 23-6 victory over the Indians. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Indians are ranked 214th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marlboro has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 12 points this season. As for Toms River South, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marlboro will face off against Middletown North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Toms River South, they will take on Brick Township at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Indians' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
