Softball Game Preview: Solon Comets vs. North Royalton Bears

The Solon Comets will head out to take on the North Royalton Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Solon will be strutting in after a win while North Royalton will be coming in after a loss.

North Royalton will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Solon extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Comets blew past Nordonia 12-2. Considering the Comets have won three games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Grace Gerhard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ali Palsa, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Claire Bush also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Solon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 25 runs the game before, North Royalton was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Revere. The contest marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Solon's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for North Royalton, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2.

Solon came out on top in a nail-biter against North Royalton when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
