League recap: Shadow Hills wins, gets boost in standings

Shadow Hills was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in De Anza. Earlier in the week, the Knights defeated Xavier Prep 35-13.

Big Bear moved up to 378 from 434 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bears climbed the ranks as a result of a 29-14 win over the Bears.

Desert Hot Springs's dynamic duo of Steven Steed and Keyvion Mayhan proved tough for Rim of the World to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Steed threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns and Mayhan had 184 yards receiving. Ace Lewis helped Desert Hot Springs' passing attack out by catching six balls for 78 yards.

James Toland was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 33 carries, he ran for 234 yards as Shadow Hills fell to the Fighting Scots. Teammate Alex Lopez added to the ground attack by rushing for 89 yards.

Desert Hot Springs' Steed and Lewis have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading De Anza in both passing and receiving yards. Steed has thrown for 1027 yards this season, while Lewis has 26 catches for 505 yards. Toland from Ron Shipley's team leads the league in rushing with 1516 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Big Bear takes on Twentynine Palms. Dave Griffiths's team is in first place, while the Wildcats are in fifth place.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Bears take on Twentynine Palms. Big Bear has allowed 107 points this season, while Ernest Martinez's team has given up 78. The Bears allowed 29 points last week as they lost to Rio Hondo Prep.

The Knights took down the Saints 35-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Toland in the win.
