Basketball Recap: South Columbus Takes a Loss

South Columbus scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to the West Bladen Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Stallions of the 40-27 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, South Columbus still got an impressive performance from Trinity Strickland, who went 10 of 18 en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Karys Townsend, who posted 13 points along with five assists and five steals.

Even though they lost, South Columbus was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Leading West Bladen to victory were Alina Chavez and Kali Allen. Chavez almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards, while Allen went 5 of 12 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Holland Davis, who had ten points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for South Columbus and nudges their season record down to 4-7. As for West Bladen, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-7.

South Columbus wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 64-19 defeat against East Columbus on the 3rd. As for West Bladen, they will host St. Pauls at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Pauls is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season.
