Recap: Spanish Springs Cougars vs. Reno Huskies
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Spanish Springs Cougars proved on Tuesday. They breezed by Reno at home to the tune of 66-30. With that victory, Spanish Springs brought their scoring average up to 51 points per game.
Spanish Springs found their leader in underclassman Aaliyah Vance, who scored 18 points along with 6 steals. Another player making a difference was Layni Noonkester, who scored 14 points along with 4 steals.
Several Huskies players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kindle Rowe, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds. Rowe scored a full 30% of Reno's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ollie Maryott, who scored 6 points.
Spanish Springs is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Reno, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spanish Springs' homestand continues as they prepare to take on Grants Pass at 6:00 p.m. on December 7th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Grants Pass is ranked ninth in Oregon, while Spanish Springs is ranked 12th in Nevada). As for Reno, they will be playing at home against Douglas at 5:15 p.m. on December 14th. Hopefully Douglas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday.
