Basketball Recap: Avery Bigelow's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Morehead over Lexington

On Thursday, the Morehead Panthers were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 53-49 to the Lexington Yellowjackets.

Morehead's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Bigelow, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Bigelow's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Morehead smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lexington only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Kamari McDonald had an outrageously good game for Lexington as he almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. McDonald continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Andre Gyabaah was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

Morehead has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Lexington, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Morehead will face off against McMichael at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Morehead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.7 points per game this season. As for Lexington, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 97-72 victory against East Davidson on the 24th.
