Basketball Recap: Hilton Head Island Comes Up Short

Hilton Head Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Bishop England Battling Bishops and fell 65-29. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Battling Bishops are ranked 30th).

Despite the loss, Hilton Head Island still got an impressive performance from Amaya Wroten, who went 7 of 16 en route to 17 points and four steals. Wroten continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Hilton Head Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Hilton Head Island's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Bishop England, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hilton Head Island will host Bluffton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bishop England, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against May River at 6:00 p.m. Bishop England knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully May River likes a good challenge.
