Preview: Freeport Red Devils vs. Massapequa Chiefs
Freeport has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Massapequa Chiefs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Freeport pushed their score all the way to 57 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The contest between Freeport and Farmingdale wasn't particularly close, with Freeport falling 72-57. Freeport has struggled against Farmingdale recently, as their game on Wednesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Freeport had strong showings from Latrell Tucker, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Elijah Darby, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Tucker pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Meanwhile, Massapequa pushed their score all the way to 55 two weeks ago, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 64-55 to Hempstead.
Freeport's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Massapequa, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.
Freeport might still be hurting after the 52-30 defeat they got from Massapequa in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Freeport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
