Basketball Recap: Berthoud Comes Up Short

If Berthoud was feeling good fresh off their 75-39 takedown of Wellington last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Berthoud Spartans took a 55-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northridge Grizzlies on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now lost five in a row.

Despite the loss, Berthoud still got an impressive performance from Avery Pfohl, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Pfohl's big performance that afternoon made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Sofia Sigg, who had seven points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Berthoud smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Northridge found their leader in sophomore Sophia Carbajal, who dropped a double-double with 35 points and 23 rebounds. Carbajal has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more boards the last 26 times she's played. Lilian Schindle was another key player, putting up three points and ten rebounds.

Berthoud's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Northridge, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berthoud will square off against Timnath at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northridge, they will look to defend their home court on March 1st against Canon City at 5:00 p.m. Canon City will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Northridge surely won't give up without a fight.
