Basketball Game Preview: Cypress Bay Lightning vs. Fort Lauderdale Flying L's + Official Tickets

The Cypress Bay Lightning are taking a road trip to face off against the Fort Lauderdale Flying L at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cypress Bay is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 61 points on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Blanche Ely on Thursday. They were beaten by the Tigers 63-21. The Lightning haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Lauderdale). They managed a 40-34 victory over South Plantation on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Flying L's.

Cypress Bay better focus on containing Maranda Byrnes and Lis Gut Zen as the pair were huge in Fort Lauderdale's win. Byrnes posted 13 points along with six boards and six steals, while Gut Zen earned 14 points. What's more, Gut Zen posted two steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Taylor Powell was another key player, putting up five points and nine rebounds.

Cypress Bay's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Fort Lauderdale, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Everything came up roses for Cypress Bay against Fort Lauderdale in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 63-26 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lightning since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
