The Ansonia Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Celina Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Ansonia has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Celina will arrive with four straight victories.
Milton-Union hit Ansonia with a four-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers fell 10-5 to the Bulldogs.
Cainan Robinson was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Celina got the win against New Knoxville on Wednesday by a conclusive 17-2.
Chance Miller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Steinbrunner, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodee Schulte-Arnold, who went 3-for-5 with three runs.
Celina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .606. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Ansonia's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Celina, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Ansonia came up short against Celina in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, falling 11-6. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
