Basketball Recap: Wahoo Warriors vs. Malcolm Clippers

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Wahoo Warriors ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Malcolm out 46-44. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 12 to 4 on the offensive boards, as Wahoo did.

Wahoo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sidney Smart led the charge by scoring 14 points along with two steals and two blocks. Smart hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Gretchen Seagren was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Despite the loss, Malcolm still got an impressive performance from Halle Dolliver, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 59.1% of Malcolm's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mckenna Powell, who scored four points along with two blocks.

Wahoo's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-7. As for Malcolm, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-6.

Wahoo will head out on the road to take on the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Crete is ranked 58th, while the Warriors are ranked 66th). As for Malcolm, they will be playing at home against the Chieftains at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
