Baseball Game Preview: Raceland Rams vs. Huntington Highlanders

The Raceland Rams are taking a road trip to take on the Huntington Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Raceland has five straight wins, Huntington has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Raceland hadn't beaten East Carter on the road since March 28, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Rams blew past the Raiders 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Landon Bloss made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Raceland got a massive performance out of Eli Lynd, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Lynd also put up a run, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Michael Pennington, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Meanwhile, Huntington fell victim to Hurricane and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 7-0 to the Redskins. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Highlanders have suffered against the Redskins since April 6, 2022.

Raceland's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Huntington, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.

Raceland skirted past Huntington 7-6 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
