Football Game Preview: Mount Calm vs. Oakwood Panthers

For the first time this season, Mount Calm will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will challenge the Oakwood Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mount Calm is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat Evant 88-54. Considering Mount Calm has won five games by more than 33 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Mount Calm found their leader in sophomore Trey Walker, who rushed for 181 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 93 yards and three TDs. Walker's longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Colton Peterson, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Mount Calm didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nason Rucker and Walker. Rucker is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Walker got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Oakwood never let their opponents score on Friday. They breezed past Calvert to the tune of 61-0. The contest marked the Panthers' most dominant win of the season so far.

Mount Calm's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points over those games. As for Oakwood, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Mount Calm was dealt a bruising 54-7 defeat at the hands of Oakwood in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can Mount Calm avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
