Basketball Recap: Vina Takes a Loss

Vina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Tremont Eagles, falling 61-32. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 371st in Alabama, while the Eagles are ranked 145th in Mississippi).

Despite the loss, Vina had strong showings from Layla Hester, who posted 12 points and three steals, and Khylee Brooks, who put up eight points and 17 rebounds. Hester has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 25 times she's played.

Tremont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Olivia Gillespie led the charge by going 6 of 15 on her way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Gillespie, who had 11 points and three steals.

Vina's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Tremont, their record is now 8-6.

Vina will host Berry at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tremont, they will head out to face off against Baldwyn at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
