Softball Recap: Abilene Picks Up Tenth Straight Win at Home

Abilene entered their tilt with Memorial on Tuesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Memorial Mavericks get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Abilene got a great performance from Avah Reyes as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Reyes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kinzley Cantu, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Gutierrez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.

Abilene always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Memorial only posted an OBP of .111.

Abilene's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-13.

Coincidentally, Abilene and Memorial will both be playing Cooper the next time they take the field. Abilene will head out to face Cooper at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Memorial will host them at 6:30 p.m. on March 25th.
