Baseball Recap: Quitman Triumphs

Quitman won the last time they faced Doyline and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Wolverines walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Panthers.

Doyline's batters probably weren't too happy with Zach Smudricks, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (he gave up three walks). Smudricks also allowed no hits, which is notable because Quitman is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 9-13 otherwise.

At the plate, Hudson Pullig was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Quitman's win bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Doyline, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Quitman will head out to take on Claiborne Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Doyline, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Doyline Panthers take on Castor Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Castor has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.14 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
