Basketball Recap: Merritt Island Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Space Coast last Friday, Merritt Island came back down to earth. The Merritt Island Mustangs lost to the Bayside Bears on the road by a 72-55 margin on Tuesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-55 back in November of 2024.

Leading Bayside to victory were Omar Clarke and Elijah Gillis. Clarke went 11 for 17 en route to 24 points, while Gillis went 9 of 10 on his way to 24 points. Clarke continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kody Grodecky, who posted seven points.

Merritt Island's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-12. As for Bayside, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

The future could be bright for both Merritt Island and Bayside: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Merritt Island will look to extend Satellite's three-game losing streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Bayside will try to hand Heritage their fourth-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
