Basketball Recap: Lake Travis Takes a Loss

Lake Travis easily dispatched Akins last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Lake Travis Cavaliers fell just short of the Austin Maroons by a score of 44-42 on Tuesday. The Cavaliers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Maroons earlier this season, when they won 55-40.

When it comes to explaining why Lake Travis lost, don't look at Payton Richards. Despite the final result, she went 5 for 11 to rack up 15 points and five steals. Richards is becoming a predictor of Lake Travis' success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 12-2 (and 8-11 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Kathryn Ford, who posted five points and six boards.

Austin's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evelyn Young, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points along with six rebounds and six steals. That's the most steals Young has posted since back in November of 2024. Aaliyah Hillard was another key player, putting up six points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Lake Travis' defeat dropped their record down to 20-13. As for Austin, they pushed their record up to 21-12 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Lake Travis didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 45-36 loss against Round Rock on the 10th. As for Austin, they have also already played their next contest, a 56-29 defeat against Vista Ridge on the 10th.
